Preparing the Network Analyzer

[edit | edit source]
Calibration kit

Ready for calibration

  1. Heat the electron source with the nominal heating current (2.35A).
  2. Turn on the network analyzer (now called NA).
  3. Connect the calibration kit via the usb connector.
  4. Wait for the calibration kit to be ready, red LED turns green after approximately 15mins.
  5. Connect Port 1 cable to PORT A on the calibration kit.
  6. Connect Port 2 cable to PORT B on the calibration kit.
  7. Set Stimilus Center at 0,9994300 [Ghz]
  8. Set Stimilus Span at 100 [Mhz]
  9. Set Sweep setup to 1601 [points]
  10. Click on avg and set IF bandwidth to 100 [Hz]
  11. Push Calibration on the NA.
  12. Choose Ecal
  13. Do a 2 port calibration.

1GHz Resonator input

Measuring the FELIX Gun Pulse Modulator.

[edit | edit source]
  1. Turn off the 1GHz Amplifier, which is located in the 19" rack with the high voltage power supply for the cathode. (switch with xenon light that nobody knows if it's on or off until you switch it)
  2. Port 1 connects to the input of the electron source.
  3. Choose S11 measurement
  4. Set Scale to autoscale
  5. Push marker search and choose min
  6. Turn on auto update, so each time a measurement is done it tracks the minimum.
  7. Now turn on Marker 2 and set this at the position of 0,99943 [Ghz]
  8. Now turn the 2 needles at the resonator to tune the response. The one nearest to the cathode controls the isolation cavity, the other one controls the matching cavity. ( it is wise to increase the IF bandwidth to 2[Khz] when the frequency is way off)
  9. When done tuning reconnect the 1[GHz] cable again and turn back on the amplifier.
