This walkthrough will help you to re-start the pumps in the molecular beam instrument at US4.

Normal pressures. NB: the TOF pressure will reach the 10E-8 mbar range only after some time. Directly after the pumps have reached maximum speed the pressure is likely to be about 1E-7 mbar.

When power is out

Should a power outage occur and the setup vents, please open the nitrogen valve [pictured below]. Call/message Olga at +31 627168702.

Nitrogen valve (closed) located at the back of the setup.

When power is back up

1. In case of a power outage contact Sjors at +31 6 23848434 or Sander at +31618875389

The setup should be automatically filled with nitrogen

2. If power is back up, the backing pumps should be running and the setup should be pre-pumped

3. Check the MEMB pressure (see figure below, blue box)

4. if MEMB pressure is several mbar, you can turn on the turbo pumps. If not, wait.

5. first turn on the big turbopump using the on/off button on the top right controller (DCU 600) (see figure below, green box)

6. then turn on the other turbo pumps using the two bottom controllers:

The pfeiffer pump (bottom left) can be turned on by simply pushing the on/off button (see figure below, yellow box)
The edwards pump (bottom right, red box) can be turned on by menu button (three stripes) several times until there is an alomst empty menu.
Then press the cycle button, then move the cursor down using the arrow buttons to 'turbo' and finally pressing the cycle button again.
