Tuning the Electron Source Resonator
[edit | edit source]Grid Pulser Taper
[edit | edit source]
The Grid pulser should be fitted to the FLARE Cathode if you wanna drive it in 20MHz mode.
3GHz Resonator
[edit | edit source]
When the Resonator is put back onto the Cathode don't forget to connect the RF input cable, and turn back on the RF amplifier in the GTA afterwards.
Preparing the Network Analyzer
[edit | edit source]

- Heat the electron source to red heated.
- Turn on the network analyzer (now called NA).
- Connect the calibration kit via the usb connector.
- Wait for the calibration kit to be ready, red LED turns green after approximately 15mins.
- Connect Port 1 cable to PORT A on the calibration kit.
- Connect Port 2 cable to PORT B on the calibration kit.
- Set Stimilus Center at 2,9979245800 [Ghz]
- Set Stimilus Span at 100 [Mhz]
- Set Sweep setup to 1601 [points]
- Click on avg and set IF bandwidth to 100 [Hz]
- Push Calibration on the NA.
- Choose Ecal
- Do a 2 port calibration.
Measuring the FLARE Resonator.
[edit | edit source]- Port 1 connects to the input of the electron source.
- Port 2 connects to the probe of the electron source.
- Choose S11 measurement
- Set Scale to autoscale
- Push marker search and choose min
- Turn on auto update, so each time a measurement is done it tracks the minimum.
- Now turn on Marker 2 and set this at the position of 2,9979245800 [Ghz]
- Now turn the pulser board ring until marker 1 is at the same position as marker 2. ( it is wise to increase the IF bandwidth to 2[Khz] when the frequency is way off)
