Installation instructions for FELIX LabView Servers
[edit | edit source]Installation notes
[edit | edit source]BIOS
[edit | edit source]- In the BIOS set the machine to restore the previous power state on power loss:
Windows 11
[edit | edit source]During installation
[edit | edit source]We use the non-server version of Windows 11 Enterprise for this machine, so a few things need to be adjusted to make it a bit more server-like.
- Windows 11 can be found at smb://install/install/science/MS Windows/11/Microsoft Windows 11 Enterprise (64-bit) EN/.
- Choose Language: "English (United States)", Time and currency format: "Dutch (Netherlands)" and Keyboard: "United States-International".
- Install the Windows 11 Enterprise edition.
- Choose Region "Netherlands".
After Installation
[edit | edit source]- Change decimal separator and thousands separator:
1. Click Start, type control and click to open Control Panel. 2. Under Clock and Region, click Change data, time, or number formats. 3. Click Additional Settings…, and then we can manually change the Decimal symbol. 4. Switch the decimal separator and thousands separator (dot and comma) to use the "." (dot) as decimal separator and " " (space) as thousands separator.
- Set the Time Zone to "(UTC +01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin ..." via Settings -> Time & language -> Date & Time -> Time Zone.
- Set the monitor to never turn off, and the device to never sleep. This can be done in Settings -> System -> Power.
- Enable Remote Desktop under Settings -> System -> Remote Desktop.
- Set the PC Name under Settings -> System -> About -> Rename this PC.
- Set the Windows Update Active hours to 7:00 AM to 1:00 AM under Settings -> Windows Update -> Advanced Options, just to be sure. You can also pause updates for the next five weeks to have time to install and configure the machine.
- Set the Network Profile to Private under Settings -> Network & internet -> Ethernet.
- Optionally spoof the network MAC address to be the same as the original machine. This can be used to automatically get the same IP-addres as the original machine from the DHCP server. We prefer to do this only temporary and switch to using the MAC addres the machine came with asap. Don't forget to update VLAN814 mutations.
Drivers
[edit | edit source]Some machines come without chipset drivers and those drivers are not available in Windows and are not updatable through Windows update. When Device Manager shows a couple of unknown devices after installing Windows (like SM Bus Controller) this could be the case. Install Intel Chipset INF Utility from \\felixdisk\felix1\FFsoftware\Intel Chipset INF Utility\setupchipset.exe (web: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19347/chipset-inf-utility.html) to fix this. This installs a bunch in .inf files which are the driver entries Windows needs to recognise the hardware.
LabView 2011
[edit | edit source]Follow this section if you need LabView 2011 on the machine, so for FELOCX and FELUC.
After installing Windows 11 and before installing LabView 2011, make sure to temporarily deactivate the Windows Firewall, otherwise you run into an "An Error Occurred on the Server" error during license activation in the LabView installer.
The LabView 2011 installer is smb:\\isolator\flare-rni\Archive\LV2011\core1\setup.exe and the license is in KeePass.
In the LabView 11 installer program, after license activation, a screen is shown on which you can select components to install. Select the following components:
- LabVIEW 2011 SP1 English
- NI Vision Development Module 2011 SP1
- LabVIEW 2011 Internet Toolkit
- NI Device Drivers - February 2012
- LabVIEW 2011 Control Design and Simulation Module
During the time the installer is installing software components, after a few minutes, the installer will ask you for the next "volume". Enter "\\isolator\flare-rni\Archive\LV2011\core2\" as the next location. After a while the installer asks for the media for the NI Device Drivers. Enter "\\isolator\flare-rni\Archive\LV2011\deviceDrivers\" as the location for the device drivers.
During the Device Driver installer, a screen is show on which a selection of software components is made. Add the following components so that they are installed as well:
- Reconfigurable I/O
- Motion
- Vision Aquisition Software
After a while, an error will be displayed that a certain device driver needs the "Microsoft .NET framework version 2.0" to function. Just click "Yes" to continue.
When the installer has finished, a "Windows Features" dialog will pop up that asks to install the ".NET framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)". Install this.
When done with the installation process, start the NI License Manager and activate the license online.
When done, restart the system.
Some additional components of LabView 2011 might be needed as well, for instance the PID component for FELOCX or the Database component for FELUC. The installer for this is in smb:\\isolator\flare-rni\Archive\LV2011\LV2011_Options_1-2\ (1st volume) and smb:\\isolator\flare-rni\Archive\LV2011\LV2011_Options_2-2\ (2nd volume).
Other Tools
[edit | edit source]If you need them (and on FELOCX, FELOCE and FELUC you do) install the following tools:
The FireDeamon software can be found at \\felixdisk\felix1\FFsoftware\FireDeamon_versions\FireDaeomRU\FireDaemon-Pro-x64.exe. In the readme is a license number. Install this.
The NetTime software can be found at \\felixdisk\felix1\FFsoftware\NetTime\NetTimeSetup-314.exe. Install this and set isolator.fxmnet.science.ru.nl as time server and test if it's working. There's a screenshot of what settings to use in the folder as well, follow these.
