- Brewster's angle
- Brewster's angle - the angle under which p-polarized indicent light is almost completely transmitted.
- CALIPSOplus
- Convenient Access to Light Sources Open to Innovation, Science and to the World The aim of the CALIPSOplus project is to remove barriers for access to world-class accelerator-based light sources in Europe and in the Middle East. To this end more than 82,500 hours of trans-national access are provided to these research infrastructures and specific programmes are in place to teach new users how to successfully use synchrotrons and FELs. Dissemination activities targeting industry are complemented by tailor-made support and access programmes for this user group. In parallel the consortium is collaborating on constantly developing technology to keep the facilities at the cutting-edge.

- EOSC
- The European Open Science Cloud - an open and trusted environment for managing research data. It will be a facility at the service of European researchers that will allow them to make the most of open science. The concept of EOSC originates in the 2016 Commission Communication “European Cloud Initiative - Building a competitive data and knowledge economy in Europeâ€. The EOSC aims to federate existing and emerging data infrastructures and to provide European researchers with world-class data infrastructures and cloud-based services. The EOSC portal is the universal access channel through which all European scientists will be able to access, use and reuse research outputs and data across disciplines.

- European Open Science Cloud Photon and Neutron Data Services] - a federation of 10 European National Photon and Neutron RI & EGI which proposes to align the efforts of the existing and new photon and neutron sources to make FAIR data a reality and link up to the European Open Science Cloud.

- Getter - a deposit of reactive material that is placed inside a vacuum system, for the purpose of completing and maintaining the vacuum. When gas molecules strike the getter material, they combine with it chemically or by absorption. Thus the getter removes small amounts of gas from the evacuated space.

- LEAPS
- The League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources - a strategic consortium initiated by the Directors of the Synchrotron Radiation and Free Electron Laser (FEL) user facilities in Europe. Its primary goal is to actively and constructively ensure and promote the quality and impact of the fundamental, applied and industrial research carried out at their respective facility to the greater benefit of European science and society.
- PaNdata - Photon and Neutron data infrastructure initiative - brings together thirteen major world class European research infrastructures to create a fully integrated, pan-European, information infrastructure supporting the scientific process.
- PaNOSC - Photon and Neutron Open Science Cloud - a cluster of ESFRI Research Institutes which proposes to align the efforts of the existing and new photon and neutron sources to make FAIR data a reality and link up to the European Open Science Cloud.

- Secure Sockets Layer - a cryptographic protocol that provides communications security over a computer network (deprecated in favour of TLS)

- Service Set Identifier - the name of a WiFi network.

- vLAN
- Virtual LAN - a local area network that maps devices on a basis other than geographic location, for example, by department, type of user, or primary application. Traffic that flows between different VLANs must go through a router, just as if the VLANs are on two separate LANs.
